On the subway, a high-school student cradles his woodworking project, a little cabinet with an initialled, heart-shaped handle: "L. Loves R." (Luis loves Rosa, LaToya Loves Robert, Liz Loves Ron). Where the doors open, the heart is broken, zigzag, as if struck by lightning. I bet he's bringing it home to give to his mother.
